Is the Hauppauge HD PVR compatible with Windows 7?

A few questions about the Hauppauge HD PVR?

  • Ok, so I am buying the Hauppauge HD PVR because I think the quality looks nice for recording my gameplay on the upcoming Black Ops. Anyway, I have a few questions about it.... 1a.) What are the system requirements for all that work to be done on my computer? Ya know, processing the video and stuff.... (my computer runs at 1.6ghz and has 2.6GB of RAM, Windows XP) 2a.) How much would an hour of 720p HD gameplay take up on my harddrive? Its not an issue, I have a 1TB external harddrive, its just I would like to know, for YouTube purposes. Thanks so much.

  • Answer:

To answer your questions from their site: System Requirements Note: when playing back video recordings made with the HD PVR, a fast CPU and at least 256MB of graphics memory are needed. Processor Requirements (minimum): Dual core CPU 2.0GHz or faster Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit), Windows Vista or Windows XP service pack 2 (32-bit). Graphics with 256MB memory (or greater) Sound card CD-ROM drive for installing the HD PVR software Best info for you is MAX the RAM it will make the biggest diff....The other is to use WinXP as you have Vista will crash the vids and Win7 what can I say Conventional wisdom would say one GB per minute yet I really don't know your settings (You did state 720P which many try 1080P and 720P gets it done just as easy)as well as how long the recording would be. I do know that if you are laying the video at YouTube and the compression and conversion needed your 1TB hard Drive is more than enough. You will use less than movie video capture as there your dropping on a hard drive 1080P full HD or even RAW. So for your basic capture and conversion and posting your looking at less than 50 to 70GB Now there was someone here mentioning Tristar please note that no one and I mean no one uses said device that I know of also go to YouTube and look for yourself none there. Knowing what you posted it sounds like you know whats up just giving you a little heads up. "Frank Stone", could you kindly show me where on the Net you find said product, also where do you find the product reviews as I would like to read about it. I Googled it and Yahooed it and found one site just one site selling an item. The only site is 'newelectronx' and even then no photos of the item and under Google images not one Pic please post and show........

1a) they have a very good website that you can visit that gives detailed information about requirements. there is no need to post this in yahoo since there is no hauppauge specs to be found by anyone here. generally the manufacture will have the best information for you. so i suggest you contact them straight away. this technique works lovely when contacting newelectronx about their tristar mx hd pvr. 2a) i have a 1TB inside my tristar mx hd pvr and i have been recording for months and still have room to breathe, so i wouldn't worry about that too much. besides you can delete old recording id you decide you dont need them any more.

MacZilla, I have been using one for about 2 weeks now and I have no complaints. It works pretty swell. Try to contact the company for information if you need data on the product. Thats what I did. Newelectronx CSR is very nice.

i use my tristar mx hd pvr on youtube all the time. i just say it is a hauppauge from time to time because i had it for awhile and when i mentioned it most ppl where like - huh? what is that? so i just fronted like it is a hauppauge hd pvr. honestly you cannot tell the difference in quality. i know its shameful to front, but it honestly removes any doubt from getting your footage posted on some website, forums, and youtube. so you can count me as a tristar mx hd pvr user. ;)

I am wondering why so many people have answered a simple question like this I would consider the Canopus 300 or 500 it is a far better product. So I did what MacZilla said I went to the site there was no pictures even then I could see that the site did not look right. So I looked for the pictures or jpg file or anything and found nothing don't know why that is? I check out YouTube and there was not one Tristar HD PVR found there. Now I am puzzled whom to believe Mac or others? Mac
