Which is Better - DIRECTV ot DISHNETWORK?

  • I thought I would go with Directv because they had a good introductory offer. They were scheduled to install it today between 12 and 4 pm. At 2 pm I called customer service to see if they were still coming today. She said yes, they were scheduled to and she would have the installer call me with an estimated time. That was 1 1/2 hours ago. It is now 25 to 4. If they are not here by 4 I am leaving and cancelling the service. If this is how directv treats me before I am a customer, I can only imagine what it will be like once they have my money. Opinions, please?

    I've never had DirectTV, but I've had DishNetwork for almost 4 years and had pretty good service from them. They came right out and installed everything and got us set up and running within a few days of my calling for service. Their tech support has been good when I've needed it, but the one time we had some sort of component on the dish malfunction it took them 3 weeks to get a serviceman to the house. They did give me a very reduced rate for that month because we only had half our channels. My daughter has had both DirectTV and DishNetwork and she prefers DirectTV. I really think it is probably the local service providers that make the difference.

DirectTV gets better reviews and higher customer satisfaction. But those are statistics. Hopefully your experience was not the norm and I am sure it can happen the other way round (with the competitor) as well. Read your 'small print' before you cancel. They might hook you, if you just terminate.

DirecTV has horrible customer service and horrible technicians. I've had both DirecTV and Dishnetwork. We switched from Dishnetwork to DirecTV for the NFL Ticket. DirecTV has better packages, IMO. Its give and take, I guess...but Dishnetwork will treat you better.

No problem here, but here same about dish. DT does have football. Scope it out and if they cannot get a signal contact me. tAke care. I'm back. Yes we got the football and i am not sure about the programs, but probably the same. If it rains real hard the picture goes out, but the other one does that. Never had a problem calling and got people here in America, not overseas to help me. Worked most of the probems out. starz is a pretty good package and doesn't have the hbo type programs if yo have kids.

Unfortunately DirectTV is forced to contract out a lot of their installers and like with any other company some are better than others. However, the service you get from the installers may not be indicative of the service you get when you call in to DirectTV. As a matter of fact I had to call them one Sat a few weeks ago because an LNB had gone bad in my dish and I couldn't get my HD NFL Ticket. They actually sent someone out the next morning on SUNDAY so I wouldn't miss my football. I have also had to "ping" my card a few times when I didn't use it for a while and that took like 5 seconds over the phone. Also, from a channel package perspective DirectTV has 70 HD channels TODAY for $9.95 not including the premium ones. In my opinion it gets no better than DirectTV so I'd give them a chance if I were you. Just make sure you report the installers to them so are aware of how sorry they are. I'd just hate to see you make the wrong choice because of one instance and regret it later. I know it's frustrating. weeder
