How to play subtitles from a hard disk ?
-
I have a Sony bluray player bdp s370. I copied a complete DVD movie disc to my hard disk. Now I have played movies from the Transcend hard disk of 500Gb successfully but I am not able to play the subtitles. The DVD from which I copied contains IFO files, back up of IFO files and VOB files. Where are the subtitles stored in these files? I hope they are within the VOB files. But how do I play the subtitles ? I am storing my DVDs to my hard disk to safeguard my movies from getting corrupted as DVDs are bound to develop scratches and scuffs and I may lose my movie from playback from DVDs.Somewhere I read how to get subtitles in such a case as mine but it was told in the site that it works only for DivX movies. The video files in my DVDs are not in DivX format.Someone told that the subtitles are .srt files. but my question is where are these .srt files ?Are they embedded within the .vob files or are they outside the .vob files ? In any case, how do I get to play them along with the movie when I am playing the hard disk through the USB of my Bluray player ? Since I wont be hooking up a computer, I will not be able to use VLC media player also. Please help and advise

Answer:
The file structure you are describing is standard DVD file structure. Subtitles (if there are any - some DVDs DO NOT have subtitles) are imbedded in the information in those files and are extracted by the DVD player. .srt files are used with DivX / Xvid files to create subtitles, but this does not apply to your situation. You should have a button on the remote for your DVD player called "Subtitles" (or maybe "Captions" or CCD) that, when pressed, will give you a list of available subtitle streams. If you don't see any subtitles listed when you press this button, then the software you used to transfer the files from the original DVD to your hard drive might have removed the subtitle information.
