Random free HD cable in the 100+ channels?

Does anybody think cable will have over 100 hd channels by the end of the year ?

  • Answer:

It is a limit of bandwidth. Most cable companies already use digital video to improve what limited bandwidth they have. Cable shares bandwidth with TV, internet, and OnDemand services. That means that if they sell high bandwidth internet access they must cut bandwidth somewhere else. HD video requires more bandwidth so the answer will more than likely be no. Satellite providers don't have the same problem. The bandwidth is massive since 1 satellite handles nearly 10000+ channels of standard definition. Satellite companies already have specialized satellites in orbit for HD quality video in place and expanding. The only requirement on your part would be to get the right dish to pick up these satellites.

Other answers

Maybe. The answer is they are out of Bandwidth. Does the operator in your area have a fiber backbone? Are they going to compress the signal to offer more channel losing the quality of the HD? Cable as a shared media will not support requirements of today in short. The question now is how will they adapt.
