Making DVDs of my home movies to send to UK from USA?
-
Hi, I'm thinking of saving a lot of my old (analogue NTSC etc...) home movies/videos to DVD or VCD for longer life. I notice that there are a lot of ways to do this now. I can play them thru my TV and record them onto my DVD recorder (DVR) or I can buy USB 2.0 devices that will save any video source direct to DVD etc... However, I would like to be able to send copies of the DVD's/VCD's to my family in the UK to view them over there (I am in the USA). How can I know whether the format will be viewable by them on their DVD player? I know there are regional stamps on DVD Movies you purchase so that they cannot be viewed around the world but will DVD's I make contain a stamp also? How can I set them up with no stamp so that my family can view them? Many Thanks, Steve

Answer:
you need to record your movies in PAL format. i remember buying The Omen in India and i tried to play them over here, it didn't work because it was in PAL format. and all the dvds are imported from UK. so record them in PAL

the only problem that you can possibly run into is the difference between DVD regions, but I don't know of DVRs limiting DVDs to being played in the region where they were created, so you should have NO PROBLEMS. If your DVR does ask you for region settings, make sure they are playable in region 2 (that's western Europe). You could also try could also try storing them online (to be downloaded by others) using a service such as box.net or xdrive.com .

This might seem long and boring but is will take you some time anyway too transfer the vhs too dvd so I suggest you record them too a dvd rw disk then that way you can use the disk over. then transfer too your computer. Then when you have them there record and edit them the way you want taking out some parts that are stupid too watch. Then record them in the pal version I recommend nero vision it does both. Or call them up ask them what will play on there player. Or like the above person says like put them online so they could get downloaded from who your sending them too.
