What's wrong with my DVR?

  • Okay, I have two DVRs - one in my bedroom and one in the family room. And a couple of months ago I had both TVs set up the record the same show (my mom and I both watch the show, so I record it on the one TV for her and then on mine so if I want to watch it while I'm resting I can), and my DVR recorded it just fine, but the one in the family room did not. And at first I thought maybe I had too many shows set up to record at the same time, but I checked and it was the only one playing at that time. After a while of not being able to figure out the problem I just kinda forgot about it and didn't worry about it. But now last night it did the exact same thing. There was nothing else on that time and my DVR recorded it just fine - but the other one didn't. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

some info about your dvr's model number and who the service provider is would have been helpful, but here are a few tips...remove the power cord from the power strip and plug it directly into the wall out let, use a surge protector if you want but not a power strip surge protector. dvrs tend to have a limited amount of memory so delete any old timers or scheduling history that is being stored as well as any search history. they are also not really intended for long term storage of shows, so try not to let it become new or at near full of shows
