Does Magic Jack work with DirecTV or Dish Network?

Will Directv Tivo call in on a Magic Jack?

  • Have been able to get the fax machine to work with Magic Jack, now its on to the directv tivo boxes. I have hooked both boxes up, placed a programming call through Magic Jack and got failure messages both times. Saw something about lowering speed but how is this done?

  • Answer:

I thought I read (or saw it on a YouTube video) where at least one person got it to work, but I don't know how. Officially, just like for a fax machine, Magic Jack says it will not work. There's a signal latency problem with all satellite stuff in general. The software echo cancellation routine (designed for a human voice) is the source of the problem from what I recall. I would guess that you'd have to have your Magic Jack working almost perfect to even have a shot at this. Below is a site that has some good "tune up" tips to try... http://www.magic-jack.info/ If you were able to make it work for your fax machine, maybe that will help. Here's something about lowering speeds (for fax) that I did find: Try the following steps to use magicJack with your fax (contact your fax vendor for details): 1. Turn off error correction on your fax machine or program 2. Set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available 3. Increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work I bet this is exactly what you were asking for in your question. You may want to contact Tivo and ask a tech there if they can help. Good Luck!
