Can I record my ps3 using a dvr?

So I have a dolby digital hd dvr. I want to record some gameplay, but I'm not quite sure how :/. I have my ps3 and the dvr hooked up via hdmi. Ps3 and tv hooked up via rca (just so I can see what I'm recording). Do I need it hooked up to my laptop? how do I start recording? Is it even possible?

Dobly does not make hardware.You likely have a cable or satellire DVR with Dobly technology in it, i shich case you cannot record other than that source, nor can copy recordings from it to your computer, without the hardware you would need to record directly to your PC to begin with which is a video capture card.
