How do I record stuff on TV to my computer?

Programming a computer to schedule an record stuff from DishNetwork's reciever?? ?

  • Ever since I switched to Satellite from cable, I can't program recordings on my computer. My provider is Dishnetwork, I got the DVR, but I want my computer to record them. Has any company come up with a solution to record stuff from a satellite recorder with to auto record through a computer using a TV tuner card? Is it possoble to buy a card that acts as the satellite receiver? Thanks!

    No. Cable has to provide the standard RF television signal to be compatible with televisions. This is why you can buy tuner cards for your cable service. But Sat service is a custom signal type (DirectTV is different from Dish) and it is encrypted and the encryption changes frequently to thwart pirates. They can do this because every customer gets a receiver that can decode the signals (as long as you pay your bill). What you CAN do is hook the outputs of the box to your computer to feed the computer the stuff you have recorded. But there is no device that lets you plug the Sat directly to the computer and use the computer to schedule the
