if it is a 1080 HD TV (FullHD) with HDMI sockets then yes you will notice the difference but if the screen is smaller than 36 inches probably not! also the sky+ in the sky HD iw well worth the upgrade alone, but its rumoured that sky will reduce the HD premium soon so if you can wait till that comes out or your existing box dies. Free sat gives a bigger range of HD channels than sky at the minute but that is expected to change during the year when sky really promote their HD service. some HD ready TV's only have 768 lines rather than 1080 and no HDMI sockets if yours is one of these don't bother..
A couple of questions that you should consider are the following. What size is your TV? I'm led to believe that 32" or below and you won't be able to tell the difference (for everyone else reading this I'm not saying that is fact it's just what I heard) How many channels are on HD, There does seem to be quite a number but look at the channels you frequently watch, are they HD if not then you're probably not going to get your money's worth out of the extra subscription. More and more channels will be offering the service in the future so may be worth waiting a while. Price will inevitably drop as well.

Hi I have had the Humax Foxsat hdr PVR for over a month now . There was quite alot on BBC HD freesat over Christmas not so good now . ITV HD has only a couple of programs a week . But having Twin Tuners & 320 GB is a huge improvement . I only have a 768 line 42 inch LG and the HD picture is amazing . things are broadcast in 1080i or 720p ( my TV ) . So not full HD anyway ( 1080 P ) Saw the last few strictly's what a difference .. I'm happy getting a Bit of HD Free and getting the recording function . The HDR is in very short supply at the moment if you do decide you want one . You could go for the standard Box the foxsat hd £130 satbuyer.co.uk. The Sky sub for HD alone would be £120 a year !
