How do I put my DVR ed shows on my computer?
-
I have a DVR from Dish Network. There is a USB port in the back but I don't know much about computers or the DVR. Is there sometype of cable I can use to connect my dvr to my computer? Will I need a special program to download the programs from the dvr and burn it to a dvd?

Answer:
Unfortunately the USB ports on your Dish DVR are not activated. The USB ports are for "Future" use from Dish network. The USB ports are for connecting a USB to Ethernet Adapter to a DVR so that it can be connected to your homes wired/wireless network so you can transfer shows/movies to a networked PC, then you can burn the shows/movies to DVD. Again the ONLY types of DVR's that allow this at this time are Tivo's and modified DirecTV Tivo's and a few Comcast DVR's made by Motorola. Now if you want to record your shows/movies to DVD then you can connect your DVR to a TV Tuner Capture Card in your PC. (You may need ot buy a capture card for your PC since most do not come with them). this will allow you to transfer the shows/movies from the DVR to the PC in real time. If the show/movie was an hour long then it will take one hour to transfer it to the PC. You can also connect a DVD recorder to your DVR's outputs using RCA Audio and Video cables or in some cases Component Video cables. The only issue this way would be you could not edit out the commercials before burning to DVD. If you need more info on what kind of TV Tuner Capture Card you need and how to set it up, or how to connect a DVD Recorder to your DVR then please feel free to send me an email..

Hi Saran, You need a device like DVD Xpress. With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.htm You connect the composite output of your DVR into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable.
