How can I get my DVDR to just record the channel it is set to when using a cable box?

  • Heres the problem. My cable goes to my cable box, then to my DVDR, and then to the TV. I go to my AV2 on TV to set DVDR to record channel, and then go back to normal TV setting. However, when I am changing channels on cable box, the DVDR is recording the same. It will not stay set on that one channel. I want it to perform like a VCR (ya know the whole TV/VCR) thing. But cant figure anything out and Philips who made the DVDR said that is what it is made for. WHAT? Who wants to record something they are going to watch anyway? There has got to be something I am missing here...help?

    In order to record and watch different channels at the same time you need 2 cables going into your DVR. Do you have satellite cable or traditional (Cox, Comcast, etc.)? The reason you need 2 cables is because it provides 2 seperate feeds from your cable provider. While 1 feed is recording you can switch to the other feed and watch something else.

The connection is OK. If you are recording of the cable box for a paticular channel, you must not switch to a different channel for the cable, if not it will record whatever channel you are watching thru the cable box. You can watch your normal TV using the AV. But always remember not to switch the channel n the cable box if you are recording the channel you want.

Assumption: This is a cable box from a cable company not a satellite feed. The following will create two video feeds one for all channels (This is what the cable box does) and one for the lower channels (2-98). The following also assumes that the lower channels are not currently scrambled. This TV must have a PIP. (This allows for a second tuner.) What you need to decide: Do you want to record the upper channels for premium movies or just regular tv shows that can be seen without a cable box? (Channels 2-98) If you want to record movies (All Channels) Records from channel setting on the cable box You can watch TV on the lower channels via the PIP. - cable from wall plate to input on two line splitter. one output on the splitter to cable box to DVDR to TV (Antenna in) - cable from other output on splitter to TV (PIP in). If you want to record tv programs (2-98) Record from cable input the channel setting comes via your TV PIP. Watch other channels (all channels) through the cable box while recording on the PIP side. - cable from wall plate to input on two line splitter. one output on the splitter to cable box to TV (antenna in) - cable from other output on splitter to the DVDR to TV (PIP). I use this set up and have the second feed connected to my PIP input. This allows me to control what the DVR records. I then can go to my regular TV feed channel 4 and VIOLA! I am on the cable box without interfering with the PIP channel.
