How to transfer recordings from DVR to VHS?

How do I retrieve my DVR recordings?

  • I cancelled my Comcast cable yesterday. I have recorded shows on the DVR, and I would like to watch them and maybe transfer some to DVD or VHS before returning the DVR box to Comcast this week.... the problem is, none of the menu functions are working since the cable is disconnected. But it is my understanding that DVR recordings are actually saved on a hard drive, so I should still be able to access them, right?

  • Answer:

Look on the back of your DVR for the various connections. If you can locate a USB connection, then connect your DVR to a computer with a USB cable and look for the DVR in Windows Explorer while the DVR is powered on or perhaps just simply powered. You will find it as a new drive. Search the DVR drive in Windows Explorer, and copy the files that you want onto the hard drive of your computer. Now you have your recordings and all you have to do is learn how to burn DVDs from them with your computer's DVD-R drive.

Once my cable got disconnected and I couldn't watch any DVR shows but once the cable was back on I could. Maybe the software sends something to the cable company so you can watch them. I don't have Comcast so I don't know for sure if that is true for Comcast.

taking it somewhere else won't work either, becaue they auth/deauth the boxes by a unique #. so no matter where you plug it in, right now it is disabled
