How do I burn a video onto a DVD RW?

If i wanted to burn a video off my computer then what cd disk would i need, eg. DVD-R or DVD-RW?

    The trick is NOT what disk, but what do you want to play it on? If you have a .AVI, .WMV, .MPG file and want to give it to someone else to play on a computer, you can usually write it to a Data disk (either CD or DVD). Most computers will read either. If you are trying to 'create a DVD' - that can be played in a DVD player, it is more complex. First - Not all DVD players will read CD, VideoCD, DVD+R or DVD-r. Check this before you spend the time. Some of them will read Data disks, but only if the video files end in .WMV or one of the more common standards. If you are trying to make a playable DVD disk, it gets a little tricky. You need DVD authoring software that will burn the video files to the disk formatted like a commercial DVD. Nero is a good package, but you have to buy it. There are lots of shareware packages available. Next - these packages may need to convert the .AVI or .WMV or .RM video files to the format understood by your DVD player. The retail software tends to have this conversion built-in, you may need to download some converter software if you go the sharware route. Eventually, you bring up your burning software, tell it you are making a DVD and pick the files. It tends to take care of the rest. Because of this complexity - I now look at each DVD player and make sure it can read Data DVD's with .AVI, or .WMV files before I buy it.

Depends on what kind of video you're burning. Of course for the highest resolution, it's best to use a DVD. The "-R" means it's recordable, and the "-RW" means it's rewritable. DVD-R: Meaning you can only record onto it once. DVD-RW: It's rewritable. You can record and then erase and then record over it again. Sort of like a VHS tape. CD-R: That's the usual format used for audio CDs.

if u want to burn only once then use dvd-r or cd-r. if u wanna recycle the disk then use dvd-rw or cd-rw. cd-r and dvd-r can only be used once and the disk cannot be recycled or reuse. but contents in cd-rw and dvd-rw can be erased and the disk can be formatted for reuse. the number of times it can be reused depends on the brand of the disk u purchase. the information about it can be found on the cover of the disk

dvdr or dvdrw dvdrw mean you can record over another vid but not on dvdr

you will need either cd-rw or dvd-rw. If you have cd-writer then only cd-rw would do. if you have DVD-writer then either one. DVD has conciderably larger capacity then CD. rw stands for read-write i.e. the disk could be both recorded on and read as oppose to r which is read only

u need a dvd-r well i use that when i coppy a dvd of a movie dvd-rw not shore but cd-r you copy music and i think pic too but not movies or videos. you can buy a dvd-r some times at the 99cents store i got one there Hp dvd-r Hp stans for hi quality dont know if good brand but it works for me that is all

you use DVD-R on a DVD-writer CD-rom. You can only burn a DVD-R and DVD-RW on a DVD-writer CD-rom. The quality of a DVD is much better than a VCD on a CD. So the main difference is on quality between DVD and CD. the R and RW stands for Readable (R) and RW (ReWriteable). you can't erase or burn more data on R once you have first burned data. But on a RW you can add more data or delete data from them. The important thing is to see if your CD-rom in your computer supports burning DVD or CD. If they burn DVD that means they can also burn CD.
