Tivo instead of cable hd dvr.

Brighthouse Cable with TIVO HD DVR?

  • I currently have Brighthouse as my cable with their HD DVR. I'm looking at getting a TIVO HD DVR. I know I have to get cablecards from Brighthouse. But if I make the switch to TIVO, do I still have to pay for Brighthouse's DVR service since I'd be paying that to TIVO? I know I won't need Brighthouse's DVR box anymore so that charge will go away.

  • Answer:

You wouldn't have to pay for the Brighthouse DVR service any more. You'll have to pay for two Cable Cards though. In Central Florida they have them listed for $2.95 a month. When you give up you digital box you'll lose some of the features. These are the ones listed on the Brighthouse site: "Movies on Demand, Premium on Demand, impulse ordering for Pay Per View events, Pay Per View programs and the Navigator interactive on-screen guide." Also, check to make sure that the cable cards will work in your area. I've heard that some people aren't getting all the upper HD channels. It has something to do with Switched Digital Video (SDV). Check the link below for more information on it.
