Isnt a Bluray player supposed to enhance the quality of a regular DVD?
-
I recently got a bluray player and have yet to get a bluray movie. I stuck a regular DVD in there thinking that it would still make it look way better than a reg dvd player. I didnt see any real difference. Am I doing something wrong with hook up of the bluray player? I have a HDMI cable. Is there something in the menu that I missed or do bluray players NOT enhance regular DVD's?

Answer:
as far as I know, they will not enhance. The DVD can only be read so well. Some players may do it better than others, but there isn't really a difference between a DVD player reading a DVD and a Bluray player reading a DVD idk if you can relate, but if you convert a 128kbps (not that great quality) mp3 into flac, quality won't be changed all that much.

Did you have an upscaling DVD player? If you did, then it was going to give you the best picture quality a DVD will give you already, so you won't see the difference. The best thing I can recommend is to put a NON-upscaling DVD player and a Blu-Ray on the same TV and watch the difference. I was watching a movie on a upscaling DVD player that froze once, and I had to switch it to a regular DVD player, and I was amazed by how crappy it looked. So that's probably your difference, if you already had a newer DVD player and were using an HDMI cable on it, a DVD won't look any different.

It depends on the Blu-Ray player. Most of them are designed to digitally upscale DVDs, but there's only so much the Blu-Ray player can do. If you have an HDTV larger than 40" the limitations of DVD start to become noticeable (and get even more noticeable the larger your TV is).

Yes, depending on your Bluray device. Mine up-scales dvd to 480p. Which is slightly better than vob quality. (vob. is the format of video dvd's play) It does depend on the DVD though, because i did notice that it didn't work with dvd's that i burnt myself.

No it doesnt enhance the quality. If you want the better quality then you have to buy the blue ray disc thats what blue ray dvds is for

no. blue ray players make the blue ray disc look amazing. you need to get blue ray disc to actually see the difference.
