Can you transfer from a dvr to a computer?

How can i transfer videos from DVR to computer?

  • I have Comcast with a Pace DVR. It has ethernet + usb connections, but will I need any software?

  • Answer:

I am not positive at this time but as far as I know only Tivo's with Ethernet or USB ports are activated. I have some info on how to connect a Comcast DVR from motorola to a pc but I am unaware of your model. I know for most Cable and satellite providers the ports are put there for future upgrades when they will be enabled. Now that said there is a easy way for you to find out if these ports are active. I would suggest using the ethernet port so you do not need a USB to Ethernet adapter. Both these ports are for connecting your DVR to a Wired/wireless home network. So I would go out and find a ethernet cable long enough to connect from the DVR to your homes wired/wireless router. Turn off the DVR and then after about 15 seconds turn it back on. Go to your PC and download a software program called LookatLan. Then with the lookatlan software you can see what IP address are on your homes network. Look for one that says "Not Windows", unless you have a linux computer or other than windows this most likely will be your DVR's ip address. Now open up Internet Explorer (Or your favorite Web Browser). in the address bar type in the IP address of the DVR. This should connect you to an interface similiar with your DVR's. ( I use this for my Tivo to schedule recording and multiple deleting of shows/movies). If you can connect to it via a web browser then you still might need special software that can connect to your DVR's software and allow you to transfer the shows/movies on the DVR over to a PC, then the softwafe will have a program to edit, convert, and burn the shows/movies to DVD. ( For my Tivo's I use Tytool 10r4 which can change the format of the Tivo show/movie file from a .tivo to a .mpeg file so that the PC cna recognize it.) If this does not work I would check out this site for more info, or for a better place to post a question about your DVR. the site is http://www.dvrplayground.com and their forum for Upgrading Other DVR's (Other than Tivo and DirecTV Tivo) is here: http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/topic/9/Upgrading-Other-DVRs/ I hope this helps. If you do have success you should post a article on the site above as to what you did, so you can help future people out. If you have any further questions please feel free to email me and I can try to help out further....
