How do you record a TV show from your VCR?

How do I record a show on tv using a blank tape and a VCR?

  • I know I'm stuck in the 90's, but we just have basic television and a VCR, and I'm not sure how to record a show. The "record" light will come on if I press record while having the tv on the "movie-watching" mode, so I turned the channel to a show and recorded it for a few minutes. But when I went back to the "movie-watching" mode, rewound the tape, and played it, it was just blank or had the snow, or whatever you call it. Help?

  • Answer:

Make sure that the VCR is set to channel 3 or 4 (whatever your tv is set to watch televison on cable or dish) If your VCR is recording on 3, and your tv is set on 4, then you will get blue screen, or snow. Hope this helps!

You have feed the signal through the vcr and and set it up with the clock and a record time. Then it should work fine.

Make sure the channel on the VCR and your TV are the same. Usually it's channel 2, 3, or 4. Hit record on the VCR. I used to always test before the actual show just in case I didn't have both TV and VCR on the same channel. You can usually see on the TV screen the word (rec) in red print. Let it play a little bit, then rewind to test. Hope this works for you.

JUST INSERT A TAPE AND PRESS RANDOM RELEASE YEAR AND MOVIE TITLE

First, make sure that your VCR will play a "good" tape ok. A movie you may have bought & know it works ok. Now, with the channel fed into the VCR (IN FROM ANT) connection & then "OUT TO TV". Everything should be fine to record. With your VCR remote, select a channel you want to record, try picking one from 2-13 first & see if it records ok. If that works ok try selecting one from channel 14 & above. If you don't get anything here , you will have to set the VCR up for CATV. But, as long as you remember to do your channel selections through the VCR & leaving the TV on channel 3 or 4. All this of course if you ONLY have basic cable with no cable box or receiver of any type. If you do have a cable box, then the VCR would stay on ch.3 or 4 & your channel selection would be done with the cable box remote. Good Luck!
