Can I record movies from my DVR?

My dvr movies won't record to my dvd?

  • So i got a new phillips dvd recorder and hooked it up to my tv and dvr.I was able to record 2movies from the dvr and then i tryed to record the other 25+ movies off my dvr and it says "This program is not recordable in +VR mode" it says its copy prohibited i know what that means...but why was i able to record 2 movies that are new and not anyothers. Is there any way to get by this error...also whats the point of having a dvd recorded if everything is copy prohibited?

  • Answer:

i am having the very same problem. i have a phillips dvr3505 and dish network dvr522 connected via S-video cable. up to a couple of weeks ago i was able to record from Encore channels,IFC, and movie channels with no problems but now i get the same message "this program is not recordable in +vr mode" when i try to record either live or saved events. this problem only shows up with the "premium" channels and not the basic ones ,yet. what is happening is a copy protection scheme called VCPS. this scheme embeds a digital flag on broadcasts, even analog ones, that disable recording of specific programing. the flags are manufacturer specific. the major manufacturers like Phillips have been activated. you may still be able to record protected programing but it will have to be on another brand that has not been activated .
