How can I convert a region 2 DVD to region 1 format?

  • A friend in the UK gave me a region 2 DVD but I live in the USA so I can't play it. Looking for a way to convert it to region 1 format

    Most DVD copying software such as DVDShrink (freeware) will also remove the region protection. AnyDVD (shareware) is a program that will remove region protection so that you can play or copy the DVD with any software you like. If you're planning on playing the DVD away from your computer, remember that not all U.S. equipment will play PAL format discs, which is the format used in the UK. Note also that since most methods of removing region protection also remove the copy protection, they may be illegal under the DMCA, if this bothers you.

Impossible just get a region free dvd player

I was told by a DVD importer from another region that cheap DVD players often were not region coded. I have never tried this however and he may have been referring to older DVD players. For everyones benefit I would like to remind people that DVD players including computers can initially play discs from any region but after the sixth disk they lock into that region and cannot be changed.
