I don't have DirecTV, but I am switching from Comcast to Dish Network on Saturday. I really don't see why I should pay $75.00 a month (because Comcast has a monopoly in my area) for something that I can get for $45.00 with Dish Network.

Yeah, I agree. I had Comcast and they are just rude and money hungry! I switched to DirecTV! I'm much happier now :)

honestly, it depends on what you're looking for and the cable companies in your area. In some places it's cheaper than or equivalent to satellite and provides better service, sometimes it's just plain worse. I suggest you check out your local cable offerings and compare it to DirecTV's offerings with these things in mind: First, the biggest difference between cable and satellite providers is availability. Satellite is by far available in more areas (especially those where cable cannot go due to physical restrictions) but customers ARE limited by line of sight issues (a clear shot of the southern sky is necessary). On the other side of that coin is reliability during storms. There's very little that will knock out a cable signal, but satellite has a slight tendency to go out during heavy rain storms and the dish can lose alignment if the wind gets strong enough (this isn't as common as most people would like you to think, though and can be avoided by a good initial installation). Next, pick the channels that you want. Make a list of must-haves and want-but-can-live-without channels. Compare the listings to see what provider will get you the better deal. You can visit DirecTV's website for their channel listings, and the best thing is that these are national packages, so those are what you're likely to have available (assuming they don't restructure the programming tiers). After that, I suggest you call the service providers to get some specific information on what the service entails (this can also be done at their websites, in fact I'd recommend checking out the DirecTV website for their information). Things you want to ask about: *What contract would you be under, and what's the penalty for early cancellation *is there a trial period where, in case you don't like the service, you can cancel without penalty? *what is the total start up cost? *cost per extra room *additional costs for things such as DVR or HD *if you will get your locals (DirecTV specific question - a very small number of markets still don't have local affiliates due to FCC regulation, though if you don't mind you can always submit a waiver request for LA or NY stations if you don't get yours) *what promo fees apply to the given cost, and how long will that cost last? After they're done, about how much can you expect to pay? *if you want to upgrade your services at a later date, about how much would it cost? *how much are service calls if something happens and you need a technician? Is there any way to reduce this cost? *if you were to move in the future, what options do you have? After you get these questions (and any others you think of) answered, you can make an educated decision on what service to take.

Read Laura's ANSWER. She has hit it on the head for what you need to do before making a decision. I am a long time Direct TV user and I would never take cable....even with losing the signal once in a great while because of a storm. Also, if you are a big football fan, like I am, you can't get the NFL Ticket on Cable.
