How can I get help with my converter box problems?

Help, I get no signal using the dtv converter box?

  • I live in a condo where I just plug in the black cable cord on the wall to my TV and get some basic channels. Now I have tried to set up the convertor box (Magnavox) with and without a DVD player and get no signal. Any pointers of what I need to do or missing would be appreciated. Thanks

    Coupon type converters only work with over the air (antenna) TV broadcasts and were specifically designed so they would not work with any major cable TV system. If your TV service is coming from a major cable company, this explains your problem. The Feb 17 transition only effects over the air broadcasts and has nothing to do with cable TV service. If your TV service is coming from a master antenna system, then you need to talk to your landlord about how they are handling digital TV broadcasts. They may be converting digital broadcast signals to analog at a central spot, in which case you wouldn't need a converter.

Do you have direct antenna, in that the analog channels are on the channel numbers they should be, and all it is are analog channels? My guess is you have some sort on MATV system where they reposition the analog channels on the cable to prevent interference, but have not yet changed to digital, or you have actual basic cable, neither which will support an OTA type box. In the case of cable, at least it will be analog for some time, and if you need a convertor box, you need to get it from them. If you want to use the convertor box, you need to get you own antenna for your TV set.

I recommend calling the comp. or reading the directions.

if you want to get cable channels you will need to sign up with a cable company the way you are trying now you are trying to get it for free. and your condo is only setup for basic cable.
