How do I record satellite?

How do I hook up DVD recorder & satellite box to TV so I can record shows from DVR to DVD?

  • TV has composite IN, Svideo IN, and a coaxial connection. DISH satellite box has composite OUT and coaxial IN. DVD has 2 composite INs, one composite OUT , 2 Svideo INs and one Svideo OUT, and coaxial IN and coaxial OUT. I also have an RF Modulator with a coaxial IN and coaxial OUT. And a composite IN.

  • Answer:

You go from the DVR output to the Input of the DVD recorder. Then the output of the DVD to the TV set. Since you have multiple outputs and inputs you can choose which to use. Me I would wire it this way. From the DVR (Dish box) composite out to composite #1 input of the DVD recorder. S-video output of the DVD plus the corresponding audio output to the S-video input plus corresponding audio input to the TV set. TV set to S-video to watch DVD and also a loop through to the DVR, Coax output of the DVR to the Coax input of the TV so you can maybe?? watch one channel can record something else.. Provided the Dish box supports that. The RF modulator should not be needed. The Dish DVR may be only a single tuner model if this is the case you cannot playback/record on the DVR and watch something else at the same time. Dish has dual tuner boxes.
