How to burn a DVD?

How do I convert and burn a video to a DVD so that I can play it in DVD players?

  • I would want to burn movies I have in my computer (mostly AVI files) in an empty DVD so that I can watch it in my car's DVD player. What do I have to do so that any DVD player can play the video I burned to the DVD? Do I have to convert the AVI video to some other format first? How do I burn it to the empty DVD afterwards? If possible, I would want a program which can convert/burn without leaving a watermark. Thanks for the help. Sorry if my question is kind of long, I'm not very good with technology.
