How does digital video disc work?

Why can't my DVD player read a disc of MP3 information that a freind makes on his computer. DVD video work OK

  • Why can't my DVD read only half a disc when I get them made by a friend (MP3 files). But, I can play DVD videos fine and CDs fine and can write them no problem.

  • Answer:

If you are talking about a home player, not all DVD players can play MP3 Files. Check your manual and see if it can play MP3's, and if so, what format (bit rates, VBR, etc). Also, make sure it does not have limits on directory depths, or max file lengths. Also, make sure the disk as been finalized. If a disk is not finalized, then only DVD R/W drives can read them.

Maybe your friend is using a program to burn the files to disc that your player isnt coping with OR he is burning to dvd- or dvd + and ypur player isnt reading them properly OR your friend is using cheap discs.

First make sure your DVD player will play MP3's. If it plays MP3's have your friend burn one it the other format. If you have a +R burn a -R.
