My video is connected to the dvd recorder via scart to av line in on the dvd recorder. Recording standard blank tapes of television recordings is fine, just offical film tapes is the problem.

Answer:
You'll need an external VCR, with the video output running through a copyguard bypass unit, then to the DVD video input. Since audio is not copyguarded, you can run this directly from the VCR audio output directly to the DVD input. Copyguard fools the AGC circuts in your DVD recorder by making it think the signal is too weak to record. Since Video tapes are on their way out, it may be difficult to locate a copyguard bypass unit.
