How to transfer TV shows recorded on DVR to my ipod?

How can I transfer TV shows that are recorded on my DVR onto my computer to burn a DVD?

  • I have a great children's series recorded and would like to have it on DVD. I'm pretty low tech...is there such a thing as a DVD recorder? (obviously I don't have one) I would rather get the shows onto my computer and burn a DVD through iMovie or something. Any suggestions?

    I don't know about on the computer, DH is the high tech one, but we have a DVD recorder. It's a Toshiba D-R410. We got it off eBay for less than $100 but I'm sure you could get it new at a retail store. It works great, no problems and it's easy enough for me to use. Don't get Trutech. We did, it's junk. Some DVRs have a USB port for direct transfer but you'd have to look at your manual for that. Hope this helps.

Does your DVR have video/audio outputs? If it does then you can hook up a dvd recorder and burn them that way. I'm low tech too so I don't know anything about getting them to a pc. I have a Panasonic hdd/dvd recorder and I love that thing. It's like a TiVo or DVR in that it will record to either the hard drive (hdd) or a dvd. I normally record to the hard drive and then if it's something I want to keep, I can edit out commercials, etc. and burn it to a dvd. Only problem though is that I don't think Panasonic makes them anymore so you probably can't find one. I also have an el-cheapo dvd player/burner that I bought from Best Buy for about $70 over a year ago so you should be able to find just a dvd burner for a pretty good price now.

depends on what dvr you have, some dvrs can connect via usb to the computer, others are locked and you have to use a video capture card to live record dvr events. you can always get an inexpensive stand alone dvd recorder, they have cheap maganvox ones at wall mart.
