How do I connect my vcr to my dvd recorder?

Do I need to have TV input if I just want to connect VCR to DVD recorder?

  • I have my VCR connected through my TV, I just want to add the DVD recorder onto my VCR so when a tape is playing I can copy it onto my DVD recorder. What steps should I be making to connect the DVD. I have tried video out to video in and I am getting a blank screen. Do I need to use a S-Video cable. The recordable DVD is a AWA product and when I have used a AWA video player and used it for dubbing I had to use a S-Video cable. I am confussed

  • Answer:

If the VCR tape has macrovision protection (and unless you recorded it yourself. it certainly has), then you can't make a copy. In any case, here is the path video signal --> VCR --> DVD Recorder -> TV The DVD Recorder has multiple inputs (usually TV and Line 1 or 2). Make sure the DVD-R is in the correct input. First try the path with an unprotected tape. You should be able to watch the video on the TV. If that works, try a protected one. If it fails you will know why (copy protection). You can use either composite or S-Video cables.
