How easy is it to record our family VHS tapes (kids growing up, grandchildren) onto a recordable DVD player?
-
We have twenty years of VHS recordings of the children, holidays and other family celebrations. Now that VHS is a dying media format, we are at last thinking of getting a DVD player/recorder. Is it simply a case of plugging-in our video player into our proposed DVD recorder/player, or is it more complicated than that? (for info, I live in the UK)

Answer:
its very easy... connect video to dvd recorder with scart lead on line2/av2..connect dvd to tv- line in 1/av1, set dvd to av2/line2, press play on video, record on dvd...... all you will need to make sure is that you buy the correct type of discs for the dvd recorder... (you can get a dvd recorder in tesco's for £70, and it will be fine for what you want... there will be a quick set-up guide in the instructions which is very handy..) get those happy memories safe on disc!! good luck.. if you get stuck, email me.. cheers.

Should be no problem. Plug your video into your DVD recorder via the Red, White and Yellow RCA plugs. Push Play on your video and Record on your DVD Recorder. As they are home movies, there will be no copy write protection.

No it's not complicated at all - sounds like you already have everything necessary to get started.

No it is not. You just need a software for VHS to DVD conversion and a video card with video/audio input plug. There are many software now in use today such as Ulead Video Studio 8 or 10 where you can also edit some frames and audio track for your satisfaction

You're in luck. IT IS THAT SIMPLE ! Like you, I had VHS cassettes with lots of my kids growing up in them. They are all on DVD now. So you are right... you simply (but correctly) plug the VHS to a DVD recorder and off you go. With the price of recorders diving as they are, you should put all your valuable recordings on DVD if you value them. Then go on and take a step further like I did... buy a DIGITAL video camera and you will get image and sound quality out of this world... you can then transfer that digital video directly to DVD. Magic quality of image and of sound. Digital recordings (image and sound and then on DVD) have in my view brought to the reach of ordinary people that sound and image quality previously only in the hand of professionals and of TV studios

You can buy a card that goes into the PC , you then plug it into the video ,

Connect you VCR to the recorder with a scart lead and press play on the VCR and record on the recorder! But for great results - feed your VHS in to a laptop and make movies with Roxio Easy Media creator 9 and slideshows of the family photos too and put them on DVD. You can play back on the laptop or on a cheap DVD player. Look at Aria and Maplin for DVD recorders and Aria for laptops.

Yes it should be straightforward I think - but as you have a lot of tapes you could buy a combined VCR & DVD recorder this will probably make this process even easier.
