How to connect a video recorder to a set top box?

How do you connect a TV + Video + DVD + Set top box by Scart plug & Aerial. My video will play but not record!

aerial from wall into freeview box, into vcr into tv. scart from freeview box into av1. dvd scart into av2. or get a scart aptodtor and plug that into av2 and then use scart from vcr into that too. wg
