Is it possible to transfer video from comcast dvr to the computer?

How do I transfer video from my Comcast HD DVR to My Computer?

  • Answer:

The "easiest" way is to get a video capture device for your PC and connect the composite or s-video out from the Comcast HD DVR to the video in the video capture device. Start recording with the video capture software and press play on the program you recorded on your HD DVR. There may even be a "Save to VCR" or "Save to Tape" feature. (Can't remember since I ditched my Comcast HD DVR for a TiVo Series 3 over a year ago). I used this technique to capture several shows on my PC from the Comcast HD DVR. Examples of USB video capture devices for you PC are available here from Yahoo! It involves using a Firewire connection to your PC: http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/news_faq.asp#transfer_to_digital

I know that cable companies block the ports to allow people to copy material off the DVR's. This is due to copywrite infringement, so they can not be sued.
