What are some non-subscription DVR's?

How do I hook up 2 DVRs to a Sony sound sytem with only 1 imput?

  • I have a Cable DVR and a Satellite DVR and want both to simultaneously connect thru the Sony Surround System I use with my HD TV. However it only has 1 imput. I tried using a couple of 2 to 1 connectors. I connected the two whites to the connector and plugged it into the white imput. I did the same w/ reds. So the white & red audio connectors for both DVRs were connected at the same time. But the Sound was very weak on both DVRs, even with only one DVR turned on. I tried every connection possible, nothing worked. The only thing that worked was hooking a single DVR [red & white audio connectors] directly to the Sony Sound System. Both DVRs worked when connected directly. Of course this means I will have to manually change the audio connections each time I switch to the other DVR if I can't find a solution.

  • Answer:

Here's one way of doing it. Connect each DVR up to your TV. Say Sat on input 1 (one) of the TV and Cable to input 2 (two). Then us the audio out from the TV to your Sound System. When you change the TV input, so does the audio to your Sound System. Most HDTVs have audio outputs. You might have to go into the TVs setting and set the audio to Fixed (if your going to us the Sound System's remote to control Volume) or Variable (if your using the TV's remote to control audio).
