How do I hook up a vcr/dvd combo player to my cable box so I can record things from my dvr player?
-
I have Knology cable and that cable box has a dvr. I have a Magnavox vcr/dvd combo, my tv is an older model Magnavox that only has the one cable thing in the back. I also have a RF Modulator if need be. I would like to hook up my vcr/dvd player so that it works with my cable box. I do not want to have to unhook things and rehook up things each time I use it. I want to be able to record onto VHS tapes things I tape from my DVR (that is the Knology cable box). Could someone walk me through how to do this? I have no clue how many wires/cables I need and where everything goes. I would like to do this very soon because I have no room to record any more stuff and I am trying to tape all of the hockey games. And the Stanley Cup starts on Saturday so I need more room!! :)

Answer:
This will be easy, being I have the same exact DVR/Set-Top Box So I am guessing you have your Cable set up from the wall>Set-Top Box>TV If your cable is set up from Wall>Set-Top Box>VCR/DVD Combo>TV all with coax (cable line), then just make sure your VCR is set to channel 3 (or 4 if you Set-Top Box is set to use channel 4 out), then just hit record after you start your video If your VCR/DVD combo dosen't have coax input/output (cable line), connect your cable like normal, but add the RF modulator between the Set-Top Box and TV (Wall>Set-Top Box>RF Modulator>TV) Now take 2 composite lines (Yellow/White/Red), take one composite line and go from "out 1" on the Set-Top Box to the input 1 of your VCR/DVD combo, then take the other composite line from the output of the VCR/DVD combo to the input of the RF modulator, then flip the channel switch on the back of the RF modulator to the same channel of your cable box (usually Ch3, but sometimes Ch4) Now what should happen, is you should see your cable like normal, then press the power button on your VCR/DVD combo, your VCR/DVD combo should take over your Set-Top Box automatically (you shouldn't need to change channels on the TV), you should see your cable come through your VCR/DVD combo (so you should see both the display from your Set-Top Box and your VCR/DVD combo at the same time), if you don't see your Set-Top Box, switch your input mode on the VCR/DVD combo to video 1 From there, you should be able to choose your show from the DVR, and record from the VCR/DVD combo, after you finish recording, just press power on the VCR/DVD combo and your direct cable will come back up EDIT: Sorry for the delay, I was away from the internet for a while Is the picture of the 2 coax adapters on your VCR/DVD combo? if so, just connect the Set-Top Box to that, then connect that to the TV
