How does replacing a router work?

Will replacing my old router with a new router solve my problem ?

• there seems to be a problem with my computer i just bought a new desktop computer that comes with a built in wireless N router I also have a wireless N router (netgear WNR834B V2) for some reason, even though the wireless status on my computer told me that the signal strength is excellent and the speed was 150 Mbps the internet is really slow on my computer downloading firefox was such a bore it took my computer about 30 mintues to finish downloading firefox and on top of that, when tried to test the speed on speedtest.net on the best sever it gave me a really horrible result the download speed was below 1 megabit the upload speed was about 4 megabit is it because desktops give stronger signals than laptops cus my 3 year old laptop surfs the web and downloads stuff perfectly fine placing the router on the center of my house, resetting the router, unplugging the router didn't solve my problem so as updating the driver for my wireless card and updating the firmware for my router the computer kept on saying that the firmware and driver are up to date will replacing my old router with another wireless N router fix my problem ? what is the company that makes the best wireless router ? What is their best wireless router ?

  I would say that your problem is somewhere on that desktop. It looks like you have some stuff running in the background that is slowing the computer and the internet down. check to make sure that you dont have anything going on in the backround like Windows Update, Java Update, Norton Update, and anything else that automatically updates itself. It really just sounds like too many processes are running. If the laptop can surf like crazy but the desktop cant then your router isnt the problem. Check the desktop for processes that are running by Task Manager. Get rid of things that are playing without you knowing it.
