How to save the WEP key ?

• My laptop went through a Recovery Disk procedure. It was the laptop I used to install a wireless router. I have a cable modem for my internet service. I know that the router and modem still work perfectly cuz I used a different laptop to access my internet service using the WEP key I assigned previously. However, my original laptop doesnt connect to the internet service automatically anymore, and I have to type in the WEP everytime to gain access. How do I save the WEP on my original laptop? Or, do I have to go thru configuring my wireless router again?

  First things first: WEP is not secure and should not be used to secure your network. See article below In most cases, you can look at your router configuration and get the WEP key off of it, but as I said above, it's not secure, so don't use it. You should setup your router to use WPA or WPA2, if available. This will provide a much more secure network than using WEP. You'll have to lookup how to setup your router for WPA, as they all are different. You may also want to upgrade your firmware on your router to see if it support newer protocols. This is available at your router's manufacturer web site. I ran into a site one day that contained instructions on how to configure a whole host of wired and wireless routers. Unfortunately, I don't have the site handy to pass to you. You'll have to check out your manufacturer's documentation. WG
