Wireless pc connection problems.?
-
I have a Micronet usb SP907GK V5 (Manufacture date May 2007) connected to my desktop pc and a talk talk supplied Echolife HG520s router. I have it connected via the cat 5 ethernet - but can't get that to work, either to my limited knowledge or it could be just faulty - cable is ok though. The ADSL light often flashes, dialling up. I keep getting thrown off. The micronet stick recognises neighbours routers, but not my talk talk one. My father's laptop works fine with the talk talk router. Up until the recent few weeks everything was fine, apart from about 1-2 years ago had flashing ADSL sorted by calling talk talk and they reset something - can't remember what. I try to cure it by turning off router and unplugging stick leave a minute or so and plug and restart etc. It works for a minute or so then packs up - red x in notification icon. Probably that's what it is - but it must be working ok to detect others through several brick walls and air. The 'Choose a wireless network' window says 'not connected for talk talke3c9d or whatever' but the button at bottom say's 'disconnect' ?! WAH! help me! Strangely enough at this moment in composing this question it has now connected - gold star and all the bars. An intermittent fault as well! Now i'm going to try to send it - wish me luck! Kind regards to all. duds [email protected]

Hi, Dudley. Nobody else attempted an answer for 2 days now; I'll take a stab even though I'm not familiar with these particular components. The easiest diagnostic would be to try each of the USB ports on the computer.just in case one of them, or one of the controllers is misbehaving. Make sure you have the latest driver or other software for the stick, and for the router if possible. Try picking a different channel for wireless connection. There might be some interference on one channel but not another. Depending on your operating system, you should be able to remove the wireless connection in "Manage Wireless Networks" (not just disable or disconnect). Then let it rediscover it. Read the manual for the router to learn how to get the WIRED connection to work; if I read your question right, you can't get it to work with the cable from PC to router? The manual (see link below) has some good and readable info but don't mess around with the WAN protocols (PPoA, etc) without TalkTalk walking you thru it. From the manual, the beginning of the wired diagnostic: Ensure that the network adapter works normally. Check by the following procedure: Right-click My Computer to select Properties; Select Hardware > Device Manager; Check whether there are devices with the mark of ? or ! under Network Adapters. If such devices are found, uninstall and then re-install them, or change a slot for the network adapter. If the problem persists, change the network adapter. good luck!!
