I Have a question about EarthLink Cable Dsl ?

okay so i want to install High Speed Internet on My Computer. right now im on Dial up, running on 54.6 kbs.. so it's really slow!! i don't have a active phone line i understand Earth link Cable Dsl doesn't require a phone line? but it does require a cable service company to connect? i have Direct Tv satellite for about 7 years now. can i hook up the Earth link cable dsl to my DTV Receiver? also does anyone know what exactly is sent by Earth Link when u order Cable Dsl? and can i instal myself..
