How to connect two lans via internet using linux?

We are MTs and have ISP connection for Internet (1 MB). In our office we have a linux server that is used as a router. The problem is i am unable to connect not more than 2 hosts to the VPN Server. I try to recompile my kernel 2.6 but it ends with error. Please guide me.

I don't have enough experience with it to answer your question, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a vpn howto on tldp.org. There is also a howto on compiling kernel that might help.
