Why won't my computer connect to the internet?

Why wont a desktop computer connect to the internet?

  • There are 5 computers in my house. 2 Desktops and 3 laptops. all three laptops and one desktop can connect to the internet. The one desktop that can connect is the one that the router is directly connected to. My sisters desktop is connected to a linksys B router i think and it wont connect to the internet. We think it may have a virus windows live one care said something about one. We unistalled the drives and stuff already and tried again but it still wont work. My question is if it is a virus is it possible for it to still be there after re doing the drives, and if its not a virus how come it wont connect to the internet. Also the little light on the linksys thing next to her computer only has the power green light on and not the link one. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

  • Answer:

Have you tried temporarily hooking up the Linksys router to one of the computers that works to see if it does get a link light?? Have not really heard of any viruses that will shut down the physical hardware. Either - you have the wrong driver, the network adapter is bad, the cable is bad, or the router is bad.
