What Ethernet Cable Should I Use?

Can I use a Motorola SB 4100 cable modem with a 2wire Home Portal 1800hg with an Ethernet cable?

  • I recently switched ISP from one that uses dsl to one that uses cable and I have a 2wire Home Portal 1800hg and would like to set up a wireless network with it using an Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the router, I am not sure if it can be done. Please help. The most I have achieved is ethernet from cable modem to router and ethernet from router to laptop data transfer.

  • Answer:

Don't think that this can be done, dude. That 2wire is designed for DSL.

yes you can connect the Home Portal 1800hg router to your cable modem to connect wirelessly because the 2Wire is a wireless router.so if it works with the set-up you have right now,try unplugging the ethernet cable & see if your computer is able to detect the router---your network name will be 2WIRExxx(last 3 digits of the serial number).if it is detected, try to connect.the wep key is the 10 digit code enclosed in brackets below the bar code(underneath the 2wire).
