That's quite ordinary, considering I think ADSL speed is 8Mbps down. ADSL 2+ is about 20Mbps down I have cable which is 30Mbps down and 2Mbps up. You don't have to worry about upload too much, unless you're uploading a heap of crap. I'd probably shop around for a better provider! TransACT are really good if they're in your area. Or Telstra as a second option..

dependent on the speeds available where you are based and what you most use your computer for it may be good or bad. Your Speed can be effected by delivery method, Satellite broadband often has top speeds but closeness to a cable fed system can give speeds of 100+ Phone line broadband and on small local aging relays systems your speed could be considered fast. Many delivery methods are effected by time and the number of people sharing. thus using your computer when most people do not gives you a higher speed. If you were in Korea your norm is 20+ wile some parts of Europe 3 is good yet in other parts 12-20 is the norm. Upload speeds are always far lower than download unless you have additional equipment and are usually paying commercial tariffs Check your speed 3 to 4 times a day for a week and you will find when higher speeds are available for your computer so you might download big packages at night or early Sunday mornings as an example
