How to install WINE 1.3.14 in Ubuntu 9.1?

  • The WINE I downloaded was in as '.tar.bz2'. I extracted it in the 'Home' folder of Ubuntu. Please help me install it. I need detailed instructions since I am new to Linux.

  • Answer:

Downloading and installing a tarball is not the simplest thing in the world. There are a lot of dependencies that may cause your install to fail It is far better to use the package manager and get your software from a depository. Open your main menu and look at the bottom selection. This selection allows you to add and remove software from Ubuntu Click on it. Enter wine in the search window. Select the software and click install. The package manager will take care of dependency issues The software installs and you are on your way
