Home Network ..unable to share printer/files.. tried everything?
-
just replaced my bad Linksys WRT54 router with new Linksys WRT 54GS have 2 other computers on home network..Main PC running XP med-ctr 3 yrs old ..have old Dell with Linksys USB wireless adapter..just hooked up new dell Laptop with builtin wireless adapter.. when I set network up 3 yrs ago was able to share with old Dell PC.. all of a sudden.. sharing stopped.. no reason.. left it like that... now that I have new router wanted to do sharing again.. I have tried everything I know to give permissions for sharing.. including individual folders and HP 7900 series printer that's USB to my Main PC .. I went into Control Panel ..Printers and Faxes.. checked it off as Allowing Sharing.. it accepts it.. I think the names of each computer might be the problem but have no way of knowing how to check it out or go back and change them..is there any way to do this??.. network seems to be working a-ok I get online with all three computers.. can't access the main PC printer from the other two

You need to setup all the computers to the same network, Go to My Computer Right-Click in the white area, click properties, then COmputer NAme, Workgroup, make them all the same. You will need to do this on all the computers

correct, if u can't *connect* ur pc's with one another, there is no way the pc with the printer can be shared with the other pc's... first; setup network so that u can see all the computers (start with two then add the others) 2nd; setup the printer to share it. depending on ur system it may be a little different, but if ur savey, u can do it. google this "how to setup my home network". I then seen this site (toward the bottom) "http://www.howstuffworks.com/home-netwo… which is informative as well as not too overbearing (novice ability). After researching for abit (1-2 hours) print out those that u like and follow the directions, you should have it hooked up in another hour or so after that! (total time 3-4 hours) cost $0, satisfaction 100%!! AND U DONT HAVE TO PAY "Niño Mimado" good luck! -o
