How to log in to my website from specific IP address?

I'm a network administrator and i have a question regarding ip address translation.?

  • At work i have a software that monitors all the incoming and outgoing packets of every computer, it creates a log of source and the recipient. My problem is that this information is shown as an ip address. For example my ip address is 10.10.1.10 and the ip address of the node that im comunicating is 192.168.7.12, this is only an example. How can i determine what is the 192.168.7.12 if is a website how can i find out what website it is. Thanks

    Reverse DNS will give you the answers you are looking for, just do a reverse DNS lookup. http://remote.12dt.com/rns/ Try that one for starters.

For adhoc queries, you could always use www.dnsstuff.com (or anything similar) and do a reverse dns lookup on the *public* ip addresses that seem to intrigue you...

There's alot of IP address tracking software out there. Do a Yahoo or Google search.

Under linux, you can type "nslookup a.b.c.d" or "dig a.b.c.d". I believe you can use the nslookup command from a DOS prompt under Windows. In any case, you are better off leaving your firewall to log things as IP addresses instead of names, as resolving IP to name can take up a huge amount of time and slow your firewall down. You are right do only do the ones you want after the fact, by hand.

OK Mr, Network admin..... Look up non routable IP Addy's and you will get your info. Sounds like you have a wireless router and the table is corrupt with aliens? THAT IS A NON ROUTABLE IP ADDRESS. You need to do some more studies..
