How to separate 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signal?

Dual band router 5ghz not detected on my Laptop, Help?

  • I have a router which supports dual band and 5ghz signals. My laptop does not detect the 5ghz signal. But another laptop I have connects to it fine. I've been trying to find drivers or something I can download to have my laptop detect it but am not successful. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get my laptop to detect the signal? How do I check if my laptop is 5ghz compatible? Thank you

  • Answer:

Have you enabled the 5GHz on your wireless card? Use the wireless tool ad go to Advanced> Adapter Settings> Then scroll down to wireless mode. Here you can select, b, b/g, a, etc. You should have the option to enable 5GHz N. If you don't have that option, then your laptop is 5GHz compatible. With regards to bandwidths from N, have you changed the the channel setting from 20MHz to 40MHz for channel bonding? Without this you will never get the higher bandwidths. 5GHz is a good choice for N as it will be easier to get a channel that isnt being used. Also make sure your laptop supports N in the 5GHz range as not all do.
