How do you connect the Internet to my Xbox 360?

How can I connect my XBox 360 to Live and be able to use the internet at the same time?

  • I have cable broadband from ntl currently running through their standard modem. I believe that I can connect a wireless router to my modem and then can connect to the router using the 360 wireless adapter, although I'm not sure exactly how all this works. Can anyone please explain the best way to be on live and the internet at the same time (and how it would all work) and also can anyone recommend any particular routers to use with my particular set up. I believe I have an 8 Mb internet connection if that helps. If you need any more info feel free to ask. All genuine answers would be greatly appreciated :)

You already said what you need. A wireless router and a wireless adapter for your xbox 360. If you don't mind running a cable from the router to the xbox you could do it without buying an adapter for the xbox 360. wired gives a more reliable connection. wireless can be disrupted by anything that works on the 2.4Ghz freq , Microwave ovens, cordless phones etc. As far as which brand to buy it doesn't really matter. I would pick from one of these. Linksys, Belkin, Netgear, Buffalo Technology, or Dlink. here is a link to a description of what is involved. http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wifihomenetworking/ht/xbox2wifirouter.htm

What operating system does your computer run (windows xp, me, 98)? With XP, it "networks itself", so all you should have to do is plug it all up. Now, if you go wireless, and your computer is a desktop, you will have to install a wireless NIC card in an empty pci slot. That requires disconnecting your tower and removing the case. Its not that hard, and most NIC's should be plug-n-play w/XP. The software and drivers will come with the NIC card in case you have to install them.

Buy a wireless router and and follow the instructions you can then play your 360 which already has a wireless card built in. Make sure you protect you wireless network. Use WPA you will have to put a phrase for a key, don't forget what you put in for a phase you will have to put that in when you log on with your 360.Hope this helps.
