Whats wrong with my router?

  • i had Comcast Cable internet that i received through an ethernet cable my brother had connected to his router, then i connected that ethernet cable to a different (wireless) router here, and i got another ethernet cable and connected it to my cpu...AND THE INTERNET WORKED FINE AND DANDY...got wireless and everything...now my brother got a different service (SBC Yahoo DSL) and now i have the same setup BUT MY CPU does not read the internet signal, i reset the router went through setting it up instructions and nothing, NOW I HAVE THE ETHERNET CABLE FROM MY BROTHERS ROUTER DIRECTLY TO MY CPU AND IT WORKS FINE, BUT WHEN I TRY TO CONNECT THE ROUTER the internet does not work...is their something i need to do besides the obvious? rest my brothers dsl modem/router (its a combo) and then try connecting my router?any special steps?i think i cant get my router to work with the dsl now becuz my cpu prob somehow still thinks i have the cable internet ...it probably does not realize it is dsl now..

    your brother must have received the 2WIRE modem/router.if what you have there is the 2700 series then you don't need to install your router but if you got the modem 1070b,then you would need the router installed because it's just a simple modem.pls.give me more info,like the actual model of the sbc equipment & your os so i can help you better...i'm with at&t 2Wire tech support.

Well, you can only have 1 box to 1 router. Just use one or the other for your internet (like I do!).

Hello you! Looks like u are connecting your brother's modem router to your router and then to your PC which does not work as you said. Point is of both are routers, you need to turn off the routing/DHCP on one of them, preferebly your brothers one. Pls contact the technician of ur router so that they can help... If you provide me with the make and model no of both the routers, I may possibly be able to help ya further....
