Can I print wirelessly from my laptop when the admin computer and printer are wired?
-
Ok, I have a semi-network set up at home. I have a admin computer that wired to my router's switch. Then I have another computer wired to the same switch that has the printer connected to it and the printer software loaded on it. After that I have a laptop I use for homework and net surfing that utilizes my routers wifi signal. Each computer uses the internet without problems, but I never set up the network so that the computers could share files or a printer. Basically, I wired everthing up and setup my router's settings, but I never told the computers they were on a home network. I know how to set that part up, but my question is once I configure my network settings on each computer will I be able to print from my laptop as well as the wired computers? Also, will I need to install the printer's software on each computer?

Answer:
Yes, you can. When you get your laptop into LAN wirelessly, you can print over LAN whatever wired or wireless. >On the computer install printer, browse to the printer and share it, set security if needed. Anyone can use it by default. So, this computer is working as a printer server now , you need add additional drivers for different OS you are using on another computers. >on another computer, browse "workgroup computers", expand the compter with printer, and the printer you shared will appear if everything u set is ok, double click it, say "yes" to install the network printer to the local. Tip for finding printer server quickly: Run-->type"\\hostname of printer server" >When it is done, you can find the printer right in your Printer and Fax folder, and you can use it as a local one no matter what application you are in. Well the laptop I am on atm is wireless and connected to the router which then sends signals to the computer connected to the printer so yes it will probably work. You probably won't have to install the printer's software on each computer. Just make sure the computer hooked up to the printer is turned on or else you can't print!

Yes, so long as the printer is being shared, and is visible to your laptop. The actual network connection (wired, wireless) doesn't matter. You will need to tell the admin computer to share the printer. Then your laptop should see the computer and printer on the network, allowing you to select it as your default printer. At home, my computer is wired, but I print through my wife's laptop which is wireless.

if any of the computers that the printer is conneted to has a wireless card, then all you need is just to setup a LAN and make sure you select the service printer sharing to archive you aims. Visit www.pcselfrepair.co.uk for more infos regard computer issues that will help you.
