Wireless Connection problem on VISTA!!?
-
I'm having serious problems connecting to wireless networks on Windows Vista, I never had this problem with XP. I am connected to the network. The status is connected, but cannot browse the web. In the Network and Sharing Center, I can see that the signal of the connection is good. and the figure show that my PC is connected the wireless connection, but not the internet. Diagnozing the problem with Vista is apparentlty useless. I completely turned off Windows Firewall and tried, but still not able to connect. How can I fix this? I'm sure the problem isn't from the connection provider because other laptops next to mine are connected and able to browse the web on the same wireless network. Sometimes after like half an hour, it connects to web properly! It is VERY annoying!! Any solutions?

Answer:
Have you installed the latest Vista updates? I agree that XP SP2's wireless is far better than Vista's. Maybe service pack 1 (one day!) will fix it! </geek>

It could be a driver issue, for some reason my vista installed broadcom drivers for my belkin adaptor. try to get latest vista compatible drivers for the adaptor!

Had the same problem with Vista on a Gateway notebook. Got tired of everyone in the coffee houses being on line except me! I just got off of the help-line with Gateway. Heres the deal... Vista has a glitch in the 2007 network adapter driver. Go to control panel (classic view) -> device mgrs->wireless network adaptors-> RIGHT click on the name of your adaptor->properties->click the tab for DRIVERS. If the last 4 digets of the version ID is 2007, it is probably the bad driver. Select ROLLBACK driver! The screen flickered a few times and the network instantly started (after being in-communicato for a hour on My Own wireless unit!#@?!) I hope that solves your problem!

Check your WEP security settings for the computer that is not working correctly. User manual is great help for assisting with WEP security settings.

well, if it says connected, then it might not be the wep key... try to hardwire your vista to the router and check if it would connect. if it does, try using another wireless client if you have one...

Did you in the very very beginning had the PC accessing your wireless internet properly? Because I had a perfectly running connection until I started mucking around with my router by trying to put in a more secure WPA setting instead of WEP and messing around with the security password. Then I began having difficulty in accessing the internet on the VISTA laptop but the other laptops I had XP were fine. It also may intermittently connect but 99% of the time it won't connect at all. I inputted both the WEP keys to return it back to it's original state but the other laptops with XP could work however the VISTA one couldn't. The only way out for me is to get back to system restore and get it running. This was the only fix I could try, even though I tried to reconnect it would not work at all. Spent the whole saturday trouble shooting. Then last resort -system restore. It is working now. Once you system restore the bugger, then work back to reconnect to your router. There is no delete or reinstall setup for wireless through vista although on XP I could do it. Try it out and if it still doesn't work, then you may have to whip out the recovery disc....oh dear !

Have you tried IPConfig to see if you even have an IP Address? I would start there. Start>Run>CMD... once inside there type .. ipconfig. Check for your IP Address and see if it starts witth 192.168, if not... you have an issue
