Answer:
It is a Apple Computer invention. Firewire connections are popping up on everything. Many new video cameras have a firewire connection so you can connect the camera to your computer. You can then edit and make DVD's with the video.

That yahoo guy is a dumb a** 1394 connection is a firewire connection. That is a port used by devices that use firewire that has nothing to do with your active lan connection. if anything it might be that something is wrong with the modem or its configuration. i dont know since you havent told me anything about it......

It's simply that you have a FireWire card. No need to do anything with it.

Your 1394 connection is a Firewire port kind of like USB, but a little faster. You do not need to disable this connection to have a LAN connection. Some internet service providers will kick users off after an hour or 2. Has nothing to do with the 1394 connection. Switch to a different internet service provider. IE. verizon, or you local cable, or phone company as your service provider.

The 1394 connection also known as Firewire is completely different than your ethernet connection. There may be severel problems. 1.Try upgrading your DSL modems BIOS. 2.Try upgrading your ethernet controllers drivers from the manufacturers website. 3.Before you try all these ask your service provider if they are installing or servicing something on their network.

1394 is the FIRE WIRE connector. most windows users do not use that connection unless they are using a camcorder and importing data. although if yahoo is crapping out do not un-install the connector simply disable it , "right click" on the 1394 icon select disable should be all you need on that. Also hope you have enough memory on your system. xp for example will sort of run... limp really at 256 MB of ram. it runs starting at 512 MB of ram, the more memory the better, you will likely see.
